Queens Zoo Debuts Andean Bear Cub

QUEENS, NEW YORK – May 4, 2017 – An Andean bear cub (Tremarctos ornatus) born over the winter at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Queens Zoo has made his public debut. This is the first Andean bear born in New York City.

 First Central Asian Migration Atlas Created to Reduce Harm to Wildlife from Infrastructure
May 4, 2017 – Experts have for the first time mapped the distribution and movement corridors of migratory mammals in combination with threats from linear infrastructure, such as railways, roads, pipelines, and border fences, across the entire Central Asian region.

WCS STUDY: Some – But Not All – Corals Adapting to Warming Climate

May 2, 2017 – A new WCS study reveals evidence that some corals are adapting to warming ocean waters potentially good news in the face of recent reports of global coral die offs due to extreme warm temperatures in 2016. The study appears in the latest issue of Marine Ecology Progress Series.

VOTE NOW: New York Aquarium Mural Contest Finalists Announced

Coney Island, NY – May 2, 2017 – The Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) New York Aquarium’s contest to design the new Education Hall mural along the Coney Island Boardwalk has moved on to the final public voting phase. The aquarium asked local artists and art schools to submit designs that would raise awareness about the devastating effect of ocean plastics – the theme of this year’s World Oceans Day.
