WCS's New York Aquarium Hosts All About Otter Moms: A Mother’s Day Family Program

Participants will discover how otter mothers protect their young

Brooklyn, N.Y. – May 8, 2015 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium will host a Mother’s Day family program called “All About Otter Moms” on Sunday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 2 to 3 p.m. The program is free with aquarium admission.

“All About Otter Moms” is geared toward children and families. Participants will learn about otter mother-pup bonds, make kelp-inspired crafts, and meet sea urchins, round spiny invertebrates that live in the ocean with sea otters.

Otter moms spend a lot of time grooming and feeding their pups. They stay close together except when mom has to hunt for food. When she does go in search of food, an otter mother will wrap her pup in kelp to keep it anchored and safe in one place until she returns.

More information about “All About Otter Moms” and other New York Aquarium programs is available at www.nyaquarium.com.
