March 28, 2017 - The rescue of 11 Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus) from a mud hole inside the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia, on 24th March 2017 avoided a tragedy for wildlife conservation in Cambodia.

April 1, 2017 – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) announced today an emergency campaign to tackle one of the most critical conservation issues of our time: keeping sloths dry. The campaign runs for one day only: April 1, 2017. 

March 30, 2017 – WCS field staff and local government partners from Tibet produced an incredible video showing an ongoing study of snow leopards and Tibetan antelope.

March 23, 2017 – Scientists from WCS have discovered a new species of wild ginger, spicing up a wave of recent wildlife discoveries in the Kabobo Massif – a rugged, mountainous region in Democratic Republic of Congo.

NEW YORK – March 22, 2017 – A new herd of bison is now on exhibit at the WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo.  In November, the zoo received a gift of eight genetically pure American bison from the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribes.  The seven female and one male bison are from the Yellowstone National Park bloodline, which are among the few pure herds remaining. The vast majority of present-day bison have small amounts of domestic cattle genes, a reflection of past interbreeding efforts when western ranchers tried to create a hardier breed of cattle.  The historic transfer will further the Bronx Zoo’s long history of facilitating bison conservation projects in the western U.S., and marks the first time bison have been transferred by a tribe to a zoo.
