Abu Dhabi, UAE, 13 October 2025—The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) welcomes the adoption today of IUCN’s 20-Year Strategic Vision, Unite for Nature: On the Path to 2045. This landmark framework reflects a shared global commitment to conserve nature, strengthen resilience, and ensure that biodiversity underpins a sustainable future for all.

WCS’s Dr. John Robinson, a member of the 10-Year Strategic Vision Steering Committee, helped present the vision to the Member’s Assembly today. WCS’s Dr. Susan Lieberman, as an IUCN Council member and member of the Steering Committee, also participated in its drafting.

The vision represents a great example of global collaboration — the result of months of dialogue among governments, Indigenous peoples, scientists, and civil society across every region of the world. It provides a common direction for how the Union’s Members, Commissions, and Secretariat can work together to deliver measurable, lasting outcomes for nature and people—as a vision for conservation.

WCS commends IUCN and its Members for their collective efforts in shaping this forward-looking plan. As implementation begins, WCS stands ready to work with partners worldwide to turn this vision into action — aligning science, policy, and finance to secure a nature-positive world by 2045.
