Brooklyn, NY – This winter/spring, the Prospect Park Zoo is serving up family programs with an art focus. Come to the zoo, meet and touch animals, learn about nature and make beautiful animal crafts to take home. In Living Color Animals come in all the colors of the rainbow. But how does an animal’s color help it to survive? In this program, children will engage in dramatic play, make a craft, meet animals and learn about warning, attracting, and camouflage colors.

Creature Crafts
In this hands-on program, children will meet a live animal in the classroom and work in groups to observe the physical characteristics of animal skulls and determine how these adaptations help the animals to survive in the wild. The Emu's Egg Look and listen as an artist tells and illustrates the Australian folktale of the Emu’s Egg. Children will then examine real bird eggs from around the world and will see how other cultures have used eggs in art. This egg-citing session will end as children collage real bird eggs to take home.

The Art and Science of Bird Eggs
Children will begin by examining bird eggs from around the world and start a science experiment to determine the effect of chemicals on bird eggs. Then, they will see how other cultures have used bird eggs in art and they will collage real bird eggs to take home.

Animal Art Studio I
Goat van Goghs, meerkat Monets, and Pallas cat Picassos. Young artists will join us for a session of creativity and learning how to make art pieces featuring their favorite Prospect Park Zoo animals. These budding artists will get a chance to meet some live animal inspiration and bring their masterpieces home to show off to friends and family.

Animal Art Studio II
In this studio session young artists will get a chance to hone their skills while observing live animals and creating works of art that will hang in the Animals in Art gallery through the month of May at the Prospect Park Zoo.
