  • First zoo camp in nine years


New York, N.Y. – January 3, 2011– The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo will begin accepting summer camp registrations for the 2011 season on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.
 
Zoo Camp offers a variety of adventures for children ages four to nine.  Four to five day camps give children a chance to learn about conservation, how to care for animals, and meet some of the zoo’s most popular residents.

Kinderzoo
In this four-day camp, children will explore animal colors, animal families, and what animals eat.  Crafts, hands-on activities, and animal guests are all part of the fun.

Ages: 4-5 years old (must be age 4 by June 1, 2010)
Session A: June 20-23
Session B: July 5-8 (note that this is a Tues-Fri camp due to the holiday)
Session C: July 25-28
Session D: August 15-18
Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Fee: $200 members; $230 non-members
 
Week of Wildlife
During this five-day adventure, campers will explore animal groups including mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians.  They will also learn about invertebrates and decomposition and learn how to care for a compost bin. They will have a chance to meet some of the zoo’s newest residents, such as our classroom kinkajou or fennec fox.

Ages: 6-7 years old
Session A: June 27- July 1
Session B: July 11-15
Session C: August 1-5

Fee: $250 members; $285 non-members
 
Zoo Explorer
Delve into the wonderful world of the Prospect Park Zoo's wildlife. This five-day program will focus on rainforests, temperate forests, wetlands, and conservation. Campers will learn how zoos work to maintain wild behaviors in their animals and make enrichment items for our zoo’s baboon troop – including infants Jabari and Azizi.
 
Ages: 8-9 years old
Session A: July 18-22
Session B: August 8-12
Time: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo – $8.00 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. weekdays, and to 5:30 P.M. on weekends and holidays, April through October. 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. November through March.
