WCS’s Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Queens Zoo are Accepting Registrations for 2015/2016 Fall/Winter Education Programs

New York –– Aug. 6, 2015 -- The Wildlife Conservation Society’s  Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Queens Zoo have opened registration for family and youth programs for the 2015-2016 fall/winter season.  

Programs include age-appropriate hands-on science activities, animal encounters, exhibit visits, and arts-and-crafts. 

Early registration is recommended as space is limited and programs sell out.

Programs at the WCS Central Park Zoo include:

Little Hatchlings

12-23 months, with adult

Explore the zoo and all of its wonders. Sing-alongs, crafts, and animal encounters are part of the fun. 

Six-session series fee: $180 members; $210 non-members

Fall Friday Series: Sept. 18, 25, Oct 2, 9, 16, 23; 10 to 11 a.m.

Fall Saturday Series: Sept. 19, 26, Oct 3, 10, 17, 24; 10 to 11 a.m.

Fall Sunday Series: Sept. 20, 27, Oct 4, 11, 18, 25; 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Winter Friday Series:  Oct. 30, Nov. 5, 12, 19, Dec. 4, 11; 10 to 11 a.m.

Winter Saturday Series: Nov. 7, 14, 21, Dec 5, 12, 19; 10 to 11 a.m.

Toddler Time

Ages 2 to 3 with adult

Participants will meet a variety of furry, scaly, and feathery zoo animals in these interactive classes for toddlers and their caregivers.

Six-session series fee: $180 members; $210 non-members

Fall Sunday Series: Sept. 20, 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25; 10 to 11 a.m.

All About Bats

Ages 5 to10 with adult

Participants will learn about these fascinating mammals and what makes them so unique. Activities include breakfast and opportunities to talk with zookeepers who work closely with the bats. Participants will also make snacks for the bats.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non-members 

Dates: Oct. 4 or 17

Time: 9 to 10:30 a.m.                                

Princesses, Monsters & Fairies!  Oh My!

Ages 3 to 7 with adult

Children will dress up in costume and enjoy a parade through the zoo.   Other activities include crafts and animal encounters.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non-members

Date: Oct. 18 or 31

Time: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 

Breakfast with the Bears

Ages 4 to 8 with adult

Participants will make enrichment items for the zoo’s grizzly bears and watch them in action. Light breakfast will be served.  

Fee: $65members; $75non-members

Date: Nov. 8, 2015

Time: 9 to 10:30 a.m. 

Penguin Exploration

Ages 4 to 8 with adult

Learn about polar life and the special adaptations penguins need to survive in their environment.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non-members

Date: Dec. 5, 2015

Time: 10 to 11:30 a.m. 

Pajama Party at the Zoo

Ages 5 to 10

Caregivers will drop their kids off at the zoo for a party. During the party, kids will play games, make crafts, meet animals and visit the penguins. Pizza/juice will be served.

Fee: $80 members; $100 non-members

Date: Oct. 16, 2015

Time: 5 to 8 p.m. 

Junior Keepers

Ages 7 to10

Participants will help zookeepers care for the animals. From studying animal behavior to creating enrichment for the zoo’s critters, children will find out what a keeper’s job entails.

Fee: $50 members; $60 non-members

Grizzly Bears: Oct. 3

Children’s Zoo: Nov. 22

Penguins: Dec. 13 OR Feb. 27

Time: 9 to 10:30 a.m. 

Photo Series

Adults 18 and up

Participants will learn some basics of wildlife photography.

Fee: $65 members; $75 non-members

Fall Foliage: Oct. 25, 2015; 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Breakfast with the Birds: Jan. 24, 2016; 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. 

Little Zoo Vets After-School Program

Ages 8 to 12

Fee: $450 members; $500 non-members

Classes will involve real veterinary medicine equipment and supplies. Students will gain an appreciation of what zoo veterinarians do every day and how animals at the zoo are cared for. Parents are welcome to observe the classes or drop-off.

Dates: Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Classes are designed to help children learn, explore, socialize, be creative and have fun.  Children will experience up-close animal encounters, and explore animal exhibits.

Participants will have a unique experience enjoying the zoo after hours.

Come to the Queens Zoo for a day full of fun, animal encounters, and unique zoo experiences for the whole family!

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo – Open every day of the year. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays, and 10am – 5:30pm weekends, April through October, and 10am – 4:30pm daily, November through April. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo – $8.00 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. weekdays, and to 5:30 P.M. on weekends and holidays, April through October. 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. November through March. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Central Park Zoo - Open every day of the year. General Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $7 for children 3 to 12, and free for children younger than 3. Total Experience Admission is $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for senior citizens, and $13.00 for children 3 to 12. 4-D theater admission is $4.00 for members and $7.00 for non-members. Zoo hours are 10am to 5:30 pm, April through October, and 10am – 4:30pm daily, November through April. Tickets are sold until one half-hour before closing.
