Bronx Zoo Baby Gorilla UPDATE
Bronx, NY – May 26, 2016 – The baby western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) born at the Bronx Zoo in 2014 and 2015 are a year older and ready for summer. Their playful interactions with their parents and one another give zoo visitors an opportunity to observe the family dynamics and see how their personalities have developed.

New Report Documents Shocking Collapse of Gorilla Subspecies During 20 Years of Civil Unrest
April 4, 2016 – A shocking new report by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Fauna & Flora International documents a catastrophic collapse of the world’s largest great ape– the Grauer’s gorilla – due to a combination of illegal hunting around mining sites and settlements, prior civil unrest, and habitat loss.

Adult Male Gorillas Call More During Feeding Than Females, Juveniles
 February 24, 2016 - Adult male gorillas in the wild ‘sing’ and ‘hum’ more during feeding than their younger or female counterparts, according to a study published today in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Eva Maria Luef and Simone Pika at the Humboldt Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, Germany, and their colleague Thomas Breuer from the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York.

North Carolina Zoo and Wildlife Conservation Society’s Collaborative International Conservation Program Recognized with National Award
September 30, 2015 – The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) announcedthat the North Carolina Zoo and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) received AZA’s 2015 Significant Achievement in International Conservation Award for their program to conserve the Critically Endangered Cross River Gorilla. This annual award recognizes exceptional efforts toward regional habitat preservation, species restoration, and support of biodiversity in the wild.

WCS Animal Video Welcomes Pope Francis to New York

New York – September 23, 2015 – Pope Francis’s visit to the Big Apple this week is sparking a celebration, especially among the striped, finned, and feathered at WCS’s zoos and aquarium. To commemorate the Pope’s first visit to New York City and the United States, WCS has produced a welcome video featuring penguins, gorillas, tortoises, gibbons, sea lions, and other inhabitants of WCS’s Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Central Park Zoo. The video acknowledges Pope Francis’s emergence as a powerful spokesperson for conservation.

Two Baby Western Lowland Gorillas Debut at WCS’s Bronx Zoo
Bronx, NY – April 15, 2015 – Two infant western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) are making their public debut at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo. This is the second pair of gorillas born at the Bronx Zoo in just over a year.
