The Wildlife Conservation Society is encouraged by the Cambodian Government’s actions pursuing justice in connection to the murder two weeks ago of three rangers, including one WCS staff member, and is committed to continue working with the authorities and other partners to protect the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary.

Preah Vihear​ (08 December 2017) – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Ministry of Environment (MoE) announced today that after five weeks of active nest protection by community members, three Black-necked stork chicks have hatched in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) in the Northern Plains of Cambodia, giving hope to the future conservation of this rare species in the country.

Preah Vihear (November 1, 2017) –Conservationists from Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), and local communities have discovered 121 lesser adjutant nests to date in Kulen Promtep and Chhep Wildlife Sanctuaries in the Northern Plains of Cambodia during the 2017 breeding season. WCS has hired 10 local community teams, under the bird nest protection program to locate, monitor and protect nests until fledging. These conditional payments ensure that the globally threatened nests are protected from poaching, egg collection and disturbance.

Preah Vihear (August 1,  2017) –The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), working in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), announced today that 19 nests of the giant ibis (Thaumatibis gigantea) have been discovered during the current breeding season in the Northern Plains of Cambodia in Preah Vihear Province. 

Battambang (27 July 2017) –Endangered greater adjutant chicks have successfully fledged from 175 nests in the Prek Toal Ramsar Site in Cambodia and disbursed across the country. The nests were protected for six months by conservationists from Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), Prek Toal village, and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

Preah Vihear (21 July 2017) - Conservationists from the Ministry of Environment (MoE), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and local communities have discovered an Endangered masked finfoot nest for the first time in four years in the Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) in Preah Vihear Province. This site is the only confirmed breeding location in Cambodia for this very rare species.

Kulen, Preah Vihear ( July 10, 2017) – For the first time in five years, a nest of the Endangered white-winged duck has been discovered in the Northern Plains of Cambodia. People from the local community discovered the nest and reported it to conservationists from the Ministry of Environment (MoE) and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). The nest, which contained seven eggs, was located inside a Koki tree hollow in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) near Kulen District, Preah Vihear Province.

Kampong Thom (June 08, 2017) – Commercial dry-season rice cultivation in Cambodia’s Tonle Sap floodplain increasingly threatens the Critically Endangered Bengal florican, a new study says. This and other threats puts the species at high risk of extinction in the near future, unless it is managed appropriately.

 

Sre Ambel, Koh Kong Province (May 10, 2017) – After being protected for three months, nine new Cambodian Royal Turtles have successfully hatched and were taken to Koh Kong Reptile Conservation Centre, Koh Kong Province for feeding, raising, and possibly breeding in the future.
