(PARK CITY, UT – August 11, 2016)—OCEARCH and its team of collaborating scientists are joining forces in the waters off Long Island, New York for a wide-ranging study to gather data on the ecology, physiology, and behavior of sharks in the Atlantic Ocean, with a special focus on blue, mako, and great white sharks.
August 10, 2016 -- Less than a month away from the kick-off of the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawaii, a team of scientists report in the journal Nature that three quarters of the world’s threatened species are imperiled because people are converting their habitat into agricultural lands and overharvesting their populations.
Bronx N.Y. –August 9, 2016- The WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) Archives has launched a project to process 13 important historical collections, making the materials better accessible to those who need them. The project is supported by a $60,237 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).
Bronx, NY – July 27, 2016 – The colony of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) that debuted in 2015 as a new species at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo has successfully produced a chick that is now on exhibit with the rest of the colony. The chick hatched May 10, 2016. This is the first time this species has bred at the Bronx Zoo in its 120-plus year history. (See photos/video).
