WCS’s Queens Zoo is Accepting Applications

For the Teen Discovery Guide Program

Discovery Guide volunteers interpret exhibits, lead arts-and-crafts activities, and assist at public events

Deadline for applications is Jan. 29

Flushing, N.Y. – Jan. 15, 2016 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Queens Zoo is accepting applications for its teen Discovery Guide program.  

Program participants are volunteers who help teach zoo visitors about wildlife. They assist with special programs and events, provide narration at animal exhibits, and lead arts-and-crafts activities for families.

Discovery Guides must be at least 14 years old and in high school. Each must commit to volunteer four hours each week, either on a Saturday or Sunday.

The deadline for applications is Jan. 29. Training dates are Saturdays, March 12, 19, and April 2; 1 to 5 p.m. each day.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo – Open every day of the year. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays, and 10am – 5:30pm weekends, April through October, and 10am – 4:30pm daily, November through April.
