Harvest Festival at WCS’s Bronx Zoo to Mark the Beginning of Autumn
Bronx, NY – Sept. 9, 2015 – The WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo is gearing up for the fall season with a Harvest Festival that celebrates nature with classic fall food and entertainment. Activities will be free with admission to the zoo for two weekends in September (Sat. – Tues., Sept. 12-15; and Sat. – Sun., Sept. 19, 20).

Saving Coral Reefs Depends More on Protecting Fish Than Safeguarding Locations
September 1, 2015— A new study by WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) has found that coral reef diversity ‘hotspots’ in the southwestern Indian Ocean rely more on the biomass of fish than where they are located, a conclusion that has major implications for management decisions to protect coral reef ecosystems.

August 31-Forest Rangers Arrest Six Bird Poachers in Gunung Leuser National Park
Forest Rangers from Gunung Leuser National Park and WCS– Indonesia Program’s SMART (Spatial Management and Reporting Tool) Patrol Unit announced the arrest of six bird poachers in Tegapan Village in Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP), Stabat Area, Sumatera, in Indonesia.Evidence seized in the arrest consisted of lesser green, greater green, and blue-winged leafbirds, along with bird netting and bird decoy equipment. North American Porcupine Born at WCS’s Bronx Zoo

Bronx, NY – Aug. 26, 2015 – Attached photos: A baby North American porcupine was born at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo and is on exhibit with its family in the newly renovated Children’s Zoo. The young male porcupine was born on July 28 to mother, Alice, and father, Patrick.  This is the pair’s third offspring.
