BANGUI, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC (June 29, 2017)—The first aerial assessment of the impact of Central African Republic’s recent conflict on wildlife and other natural resources in the northern part of the country shows that wildlife populations have been depleted in large areas of their former range, yet there is hope as some populations of Kordofan giraffe, giant eland, buffalo, roan, and other key species that still survive in low numbers.

June 15, 2017 -- Cool Effect^TM, a non-profit organization curating the world’s premier carbon reduction projects, announced the addition of Madagascar’s Makira Natural Park Project to its platform in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). June 5, 2017 – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) today honored President Ali Bongo Ondimba for expanding marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Gabonese Republic and for his efforts to advance wildlife conservation.

KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo (May 26, 2017) – A new study by WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) has revealed how mining for valuable minerals in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a major driving factor in the illegal hunting of great apes and other wildlife for food.

JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN (May 24, 2017)—The first aerial assessment of the impact of South Sudan’s current civil war on the country’s wildlife and other natural resources shows that significant wildlife populations have so far survived, but poaching and commercial wildlife trafficking are increasing, as well as illegal mining, timber harvesting and charcoal production, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) said in a report issued today.

KAMPALA, Uganda (May 11, 2017) – Scientists in Uganda studying the behaviors of the country’s famous tree-climbing lions have found that the home ranges of lion prides in the study areas have increased over time as they search farther for diminishing numbers of prey animals.

MAY 10, 2017 – A new elite team of WCS-trained wildlife rangers in Tanzania graduated on May 6th and will be deployed in the Ruaha-Katavi Landscape, which harbors East Africa's largest elephant population. Ruaha-Katavi now has three such elite units to fight poachers.
