A copy of the testimony submitted today to the Hawaii House Committee on Water and Land in support of HB 837, which would help shut down the illegal trade in ivory currently decimating elephants across Africa. 

WCS applauded President Obama’s FY16 budget request for its conservation highlights, but cautioned that recent gains for wildlife trafficking could disappear unless Congress acts.

WCS and the 96 Elephants campaign praise San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors for unanimously passing a resolution in support of A96, state legislation that would ban the sale of ivory and rhinoceros horn in the state of California.

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Governments of Tanzania and the United States, including USAID, announced the launch of a new joint program to save East Africa’s largest elephant population in the Ruaha-Katavi Landscape.

Today, WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) applauded the introduction of a Senate bill that would strengthen the law enforcement tools and penalties against wildlife trafficking. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) introduced the bill.

A member of a cooperative of small-scale farmers, many of whom are former poachers, played a key role in the recent arrests by the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) of two wildlife traffickers attempting to trade ivory as part of a major syndicate involved in the illegal wildlife trade.

NOTE FOR EDITORS: In the U.S., WCS is urging continued federal support to fight wildlife trafficking including a U.S. Senate proposal to direct $55 million from the U.S. State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the cause.
