The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is holding a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 28, 2018, for the opening of the Donald Zucker and Barbara Hrbek Zucker Ocean Wonders: Sharks! exhibit at the New York Aquarium.
June 8, 2017 – For World Oceans Day – celebrated today across the globe – WCS launches the 30-Day Plastics Challenge to reduce use of single-use disposable plastics, and to bring attention to the fact that, by some estimates, a staggering 5 trillion pieces of plastic are currently floating in the world’s oceans.
June 5, 2017 – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) today announced The Tiffany & Co. Foundation’s $1 million dollar grant towards its Marine Protected Area (MPA) Fund. The grant will be instrumental in the Fund’s mission to establish and strengthen MPAs around the world.
April 19, 2017 – Marine experts and conservationists from the WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), TRAFFIC, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), regional governments, and other groups have produced a status report and roadmap for protecting sharks and rays in the southwest Indian Ocean, one of the last remaining strongholds for these ancient creatures in the world’s oceans.
August 25, 2016—A juvenile white shark, being tracked via satellite in the New York seascape, has been named after Theodore Roosevelt, the US president who appointed the committee in 1894 asking New York State to establish a zoological society in New York City -- which through the years developed into the Wildlife Conservation Society.
