June 2, 2016 – WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), founder of the 96 Elephants campaign, applauded the Obama Administration’s announcement of a near-total ban on the interstate trade in ivory. The final revision for of the 4(d) rule of the Endangered Species Act for African elephants allows for exceptions for items containing de minimis amounts of ivory and documented antiques.

华盛顿(201662日)--- 国际野生生物保护学会(Wildlife Conservation Society简称WCS)作为“96头大象活动的创办者,为奥巴马政府宣布象牙贸易禁令喝彩,这一禁令几乎全面实现了州与州之间的象牙禁贸。美国濒危物种法案中最新的4(d)条款中(Endangered Species Act for African elephants)仅允许两项例外的存在:一是极其微小的象牙装饰品,二是具有法律证明文件的古董。

 Russian-American Team Goes to Extremes to Answer Pressing Conservation Questions
NEW YORK (June 1, 2016) The Wrangel Island Federal Reserve, a remote island some 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Russia, was recently the site of an expedition to understand the impacts of climate change and polar bear predation on muskoxen—a Pleistocene relic that survived the woolly mammoths and woolly rhinos that once roamed this northern Siberian tundra.

Tiger Brokers Arrested by Forest Rangers and Indonesian Police
The Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP), Langkat District Police (Polres Langkat), and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) announced an enforcement action against wildlife brokers for trading tiger parts. The perpetrators were arrested in Kuta Gajah, Langkat, North Sumatra on May 24, 2016.

Bust of High-Level Ring Laundering Large Marine Animals Leads to Release of 2 Whale Sharks Back Into the Wild
Indonesian government agencies, supported by the Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) of the Wildlife Conservation Society, confiscated and released back into the wild two illegally caught whale sharks from a major supplier of large marine megafauna to the international wildlife trade.

North American River Otter Pup Debuts at WCS’s Prospect Park Zoo

Brooklyn, N.Y. – May 27, 2016 – A North American river otter pup (Lontra canadensis) has made his public debut at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Prospect Park Zoo. The male otter was born February 14 and has now reached the age where it spends time outside of its birth den.
