A Rolling Stone Gathers No Mates
( NEW YORK – March 14, 2016) - Papa might not have been a rolling stone, according to a new study that examined the mating dynamics of transient wildlife that have dispersed from other areas.   The researchers found if males traveling from long distances are less attractive to females, connectivity can be greatly impacted.  They link these results to existing evidence showing that males from far-off areas have less offspring.

Endangered Tiger Killed in Myanmar Came from Thailand
MARCH 9, 2016 - Experts from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) say that a tiger killed on Feb 25th in Myanmar came from a protected area in neighboring Thailand that currently hosts between 60 and 70 tigers.

WCS Reboots Annual WCS Run for the Wild With New Prizes and Race Day Activities

Bronx, N.Y. – March 7, 2016 – The 2016 WCS Run for the Wild is scheduled for Saturday, April 30. Runners, walkers, and wildlife supporters are invited to participate in the 8th annual 5K race and family fun run/walk at the Bronx Zoo.  Each year, WCS Run for the Wild is committed to raising awareness of the threats facing wildlife while raising money to help WCS conservation work at the Bronx Zoo and around the world. This year runners and walkers can choose to participate on behalf of whatever species most inspires them. Since its inception in 2009, more than 40,000 people have participated. New Bat Habitat Discovered in Western Alberta
Central Alberta (February 25, 2016) WCS Canada announced today the discovery of two bat hibernacula —places where bats hibernate during winter months—in the Alberta foothills. The discovery was made recently during Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Canada’s ongoing research as part of the BatCaver program (www.batcaver.org).
